| Most of us spend far more years learning the Christian faith as adults than we did as children. Indeed, we can and should be students of the Bible our entire lives. This is the reason adult education should be emphasized in the church. At Immanuel, we promote adult learning in many ways. Here is how we promote adult learning and fellowship.
Adult ElectivesEvery Sunday morning during the school year we offer a selection of classes for adults to attend. Taught by members of the church, these classes include a Bible study or survey, a family-oriented or personal spiritual growth topic and a theological issue or contemporary issue examined from a biblical perspective. Some classes are lectures. Some are discussions. Some feature special guests. Classes are conducted in various lengths on a quarterly basis to coincide with children and youth Sunday School.Small GroupsAll adults at Immanuel are invited to be a part of a small group that meets for fellowship, prayer and learning. New groups are organized each fall and meet at various times, locations, and frequencies. Often members form their own groups without the assistance of pastoral staff. The primary purpose of small groups is to help adults become assimilated into the congregation, but they are also excellent places for adult education.
